We are a group of hard-core assembly language programmers that have been coding software since (actually not long after) IBM introduce their first IBM Personal Computer XT(tm).
Those were the days where real programmers take extra care and effort to squeeze their software applications and utilities onto a single floppy diskette. As swapping floppy diskette in and out of the diskette drive is a nightmare for the users. They take great pride in having the greatest number of tasks done per executable bytes used. The most awesome real programmers are always looking to save that few CPU clocks cycles by using any ingenious ways they can think of.
But, as usual, times change. We are faced today with a world in which newer programmers who are more interested in dishing out large and bloated software. They take great pride in the speed of dishing out faster rather than making software faster and smaller. Their excuses for such behaviors are always memory are cheap and abundance, hardware speed double every 18 months.
Let the truth be told! Today, We are still irritated by the hard disk thrashing sound and the long waiting time for those same tasks we did during those past years. Memory seems forever not enough. These resources hungry bloated software are draining our laptop battery like there no tomorrow. When the promised and faster hardware come, the software that we had brought are no longer supported!
What of the future? It is a matter of grave concern to us that you might not have been better served with better software. Are we destined to get in the cycle of upgrading and replacement market?
